The

Welding Supervisor

oversees day-to-day welding operations for assigned production areas, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and workforce development. This role manages welders, leads process improvements, coordinates with engineering and quality teams, and ensures compliance with AWS, plant procedures, and customer specifications. The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on welding experience, fabrication leadership, and the ability to coach and grow a skilled workforce in a fast‑paced industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

Promote a strong safety culture; ensure all welders follow PPE, lockout/tagout, and plant safety procedures. Conduct daily safety briefings, audits, and corrective actions. Enforce compliance with AWS, ASME, and internal welding standards. Supervise, schedule, and support a team of welders, fitters, and fabricators. Provide hands‑on coaching, skills training, weld technique feedback, and performance evaluations. Recommend training upgrades, cross‑training, and certifications to increase team capability. Address employee relations matters in alignment with HR policies. Production & Throughput

Plan, coordinate, and prioritize welding work to meet production schedules. Review prints, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and traveler requirements with welders. Monitor workflow, eliminate bottlenecks, and ensure efficient use of labor and materials. Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Planning to support MPS goals. Quality & Process Control

Ensure weld quality meets VTC standards and customer specifications. Work closely with Quality Inspectors to address NCRs, corrective actions, and rework reduction. Drive root-cause analysis and process improvements using Lean/Kaizen methodologies. Maintain documentation, including welder certifications, WPS adherence, and inspection records. Equipment & Maintenance

Ensure welding equipment, fixtures, and tools are properly maintained and calibrated. Request repairs or replacements to avoid downtime. Recommend new equipment or tooling upgrades to increase productivity. Qualifications

Required

5+ years of welding/fabrication experience in industrial or heavy manufacturing. 2+ years of experience in a lead, supervisor, or team lead role. Proficiency with MIG, TIG, stick welding, and reading blueprints. Understanding of WPS, PQR, weld symbols, tolerances, and fabrication standards. Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills. Ability to work on-site and support production needs across shifts as required. Preferred

AWS certification (CWI, CWE, or equivalent). Experience in transformer, steel fabrication, or custom engineered manufacturing. Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Why Join Virginia Transformer
