This position is responsible for effective management of the Post-Award team, oversight of complex federal and private contracts, and ensuring compliance with institutional, state and federal policies.

Responsibilities

Supervise Post-Award staff, applying established policies, practices and internal controls.

Provide financial and administrative oversight of complex and multi‑disciplinary federal and private contracts and grants for the School of Biological Sciences.

Develop and oversee processes for award set‑up, pre‑award spending (RAS), subcontract agreements, invoicing, progress reports, personnel effort reporting, cost share tracking, patent and invention reporting, and award closeout.

Analyze requests for pre‑award spending and make recommendations to Principal Investigators, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, Chairs, Directors and Sponsored Projects Administration.

Provide training and serve as a resource for changes in University, State and Federal policies and University systems.

Exercise judgment within defined procedures to identify risks and respond appropriately; prioritize workflow and set service guidelines.

Collaborate with the Contracts and Grants Director to develop procedures and achieve unit goals.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of contracts and grants transactions, financial systems and related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.

Proficiency in Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor‑specific policies, intellectual property policies, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, indirect cost rates, and other complex research administration concepts.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.

Experience managing high‑volume, complex transactions and performing highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.

Proficient with spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and reporting.

Strong interpersonal and service orientation, ability to multi‑task effectively, judgment, decision‑making and communication skills.

Strong supervisory skills: hiring, coaching, mentoring, motivating, disciplining and leading staff.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Independently resolve financial analysis and problem resolution, following through on assignments.

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training in Contracts and Grants Administration.
