Project Transportation Planner
with 7‑10 years of experience to be part of transformative projects that will define how people move through the city for decades to come. As a Project Transportation Planner, you’ll work alongside industry leaders on high‑impact projects that support sustainable, inclusive, and innovative transportation solutions. You’ll contribute to planning efforts for major infrastructure developments, multimodal networks, and event‑driven mobility strategies.
Based in a collaborative team environment, you’ll contribute to technical analysis, assist in preparing reports and proposals, and engage with clients and stakeholders to help shape sustainable transport solutions. Your work will span areas such as rail and BRT corridor studies, station/mobility hub projects, complete and opening street projects, transportation operations for major events, with opportunities to grow your expertise in line with your interests and strengths. With a solid foundation in a relevant discipline, you’ll be encouraged to develop professionally—whether through mentoring, project experience, or involvement in industry bodies. Your contributions will help drive innovation and support Mott MacDonald’s continued growth in the transportation planning sector.
Responsibilities
Analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing traditional data and big data
Leveraging digital tools, innovation and GIS technologies
Supporting/leading traffic impact analysis, micro‑simulation modeling, and travel demand modeling work
Preparing reports, presentations, outreach collateral materials, and other deliverables
Leading/supporting stakeholder engagement and public outreach
Leading/supporting project and client meetings
Managing the scope, schedule, budget and resourcing for tasks and projects
Collaborating with engineers, urban designers and data scientists
Driving sustainable outcomes
Building connections through our Early Career Professionals Network
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or related field
Demonstrate a great sense of responsibility and ownership of the projects or tasks assigned to you. Have a “can do” attitude and willing to get out of your comfortable zone.
Have strong curiosity and eagerness to develop new skills
Demonstrated interest in your chosen field through previous employment, volunteering opportunities, or organization memberships
Creative thinking skills, with a methodical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
Proficient communication and presentation skills to engage confidently with clients and colleagues
Resilient, solution‑oriented mindset, with a focus on continuous growth and delivering value
Ability to build and maintain relationships and rapport with internal and external stakeholders

Location and Work Pattern This position will be located in Los Angeles, CA or Orange, CA. You must be able to reliably commute to our office in one of these locations, per our hybrid working policy.
Salary The expected salary for this position is $118,000- $142,000. Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
