Base Pay Range $96,336.00/yr – $121,413.00/yr

Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24/7 for more than 4,900 applications across 53 State agencies. Under the direction of an Information Technology Architect 2, the Technology Analyst 2 (Human‑Centered Design) will design and oversee implementation of business systems and tools that promote safe, ergonomically comfortable, and accessible work environments. The role collaborates with business managers and IT professionals to translate business requirements into technical specifications, creating products that meet user needs for comfort, accessibility, and functionality.

Duties Include (Not Limited To)

Work planning, oversight, technical problem solving, and communication/collaboration with other business teams.

Support junior team members in interface design, development, and implementation.

Lead assigned organizational responsibilities, programs, and personnel, ensuring effective team collaboration, work processes, and technical oversight.

Assess departmental needs to determine optimal interface utilization.

Translate user research data into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for intuitive user experiences.

Oversee and monitor ongoing data exchange and interface operations.

Coordinate, test, and perform system and software upgrades to interface engines.

Assist in producing thought‑leadership resources such as whitepapers and presentations.

Prepare, coordinate, and conduct predictive and empirical workload analyses and usability assessments.

Use industry‑standard design and prototyping tools to create wireframes, visual designs, and interactive prototypes.

Maintain current skills and awareness of new developments to best support and advise customers.

Act as a team leader as needed and assist less experienced interface engineering staff.

Provide support and interact with data exchange partners (internal and external).

Secure and interface design studies that translate into hardware and software Human‑Systems Integration (HIS) specifications.

Translate business and user requirements into design solutions and present project plans and deliverable targets.

Perform supervisory duties as required.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of information technology experience, with at least two (2) years within the discipline of human‑centered design.

Substitutions

Associate’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes one year of general IT experience.

Bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes one year of general IT experience.

Bachelor’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes three years of general IT experience.

Bachelor’s degree in any field substitutes two years of general IT experience.

Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes one year of general IT experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Human‑Centered Design from recognized institutions or software providers.

Experience with web page design, graphical user interface, and user‑centered design.

Technical proficiency in Human‑Centered Design tools.

Fluency in CSS, HMI, JavaScript, and HTML.

Knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and scripting.

Strong analytical skills for translating business processes into technical requirements.

Problem‑solving skills for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and networking issues.

Excellent communication skills to liaise with technical and non‑technical staff.

Leadership and project management skills to oversee new system implementations within budget and on schedule.

Attention to detail for monitoring system performance and identifying improvement opportunities.

Knowledge of cybersecurity principles to safeguard systems and sensitive data.

Teamwork skills to collaborate on mockups and design decisions.

Commitment to continual learning of emerging IT trends and technologies.

Please Note

Appointment requires obtaining or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.

Appointment is final only after all agency approvals have been granted.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to work permanently in the United States. ITS policy is not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non‑immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas.

Some positions may require fingerprinting, up to 25 % travel, and lifting up to 50 lb.

Eligible positions in New York City receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment pay; positions in the Mid‑Hudson receive $1,650 adjustment pay.
