Position Overview
Salary range: $55,000 annually (NON EXEMPT $26.35/hr) at Step 1 or $58,600 (NON EXEMPT $28.07/hr) at Step 2.

Position Description The Veterinary Assisted Reproduction Laboratory (https://vetart.vetmed.ucdavis.edu) at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a part‑time/full‑time Junior Specialist position. The successful applicant will assist and conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Pouya Dini) and embryologists (Dr. Alejandro de la Fuente and Dr. Kazuki Takahashi).
NATURE AND PURPOSE The Junior Specialist provides specialized technical expertise in the planning and execution of research and clinical projects, remains current on emerging issues, and supplies input into research planning and educational programs.
Major Responsibilities Primary functions include providing scientific, research, and clinical support to the laboratory, focusing on in vitro embryo production of equine and bovine embryos.
Responsibilities involve assisting in the clinical ICSI/IVF program, client communication, research projects, and supporting students and researchers. The Junior Specialist also handles general laboratory tasks such as ordering materials, record keeping, lab safety, and archiving samples.
Research (90%) Develop and execute a research program on in vitro fertilization methods, sperm preparation, oocyte maturation, embryo development, and genomic analysis. Participate in molecular techniques (RNA, DNA, protein extraction), PCR, cell culture, liquid nitrogen storage, and related laboratory duties. Support clinical research including semen analysis, oocyte aspiration, and embryo transfer. Assist in manuscript preparation and publication. Help secure and manage funding from federal and state agencies, prepare reports, and interact with funding agencies.
Professional Competence and Activity (5%) Participate in professional societies and conferences, serve as a reviewer of research proposals and scientific publications, present results orally, and coordinate presentations at seminars and educational functions.
University & Public Service (5%) Engage in mentoring undergraduate students and participate in department or university committees as directed by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at application) Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science.
Additional qualifications (required at start) Prior exposure to assisted reproductive techniques; demonstrated proficiency with IVF and ICSI; willingness to work with biohazardous materials and biologicals.
