Shelter Supervisor - St. PJ's Children's Home Full‑time

Mission:

The Mission of St. PJ's Children’s Home is to be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time.

Summary:

The Shelter Supervisor, under the general direction of the Shelter Program Director (or designee), assists the Program Director in establishing and directing the overall shelter operation in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma‑informed services to residents and their children. The position is also responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels at all times to ensure each resident’s physical, social, emotional, educational, and recreational needs are met.

Position Responsibilities

Recruit, hire, train staff under supervision and make recommendations for termination.

Lead and daily supervise direct care staff, team leaders and weekend supervisor.

Schedule staffing to meet licensing requirements and ensure client safety.

Provide verbal and written performance feedback; communicate with Program Director.

Ensure staff use trauma‑informed interventions to help youth develop self‑regulation skills.

Communicate expectations related to the trauma‑informed program and program goals.

Adhere to and maintain documentation in accordance with contractor, state licensing, funding source requirements, St. PJ’s policies and all accreditation body standards.

Confirm staff understand and apply trauma‑informed care principles and competencies.

Provide reflective supervision to promote professional development and monitor application of trauma‑informed care principles.

Conduct floor observations to monitor RCYCP and TBRI competency progress and provide coaching and mentoring.

Ensure adequate staffing, including submitting hiring requisitions and providing coverage in ratio as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field preferred; High School Diploma required.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years related experience, with preference for those who have provided oversight and supervision of staff.

License & Credentials:

Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

Valid vehicle insurance.

LCCA or ability to obtain LCCA preferred.

Provide immunization/shot records.

Submit to state and federal background check, child abuse and neglect registry check, and tuberculosis screening.

Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing essential duties.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills

Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel) and online database systems.

Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Ability to read and interpret policy, procedures and standards.

Detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, works well independently and on a team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Remain calm and composed in crisis situations.

Travel Requirements Travel requirements for the position include 0% local and 0% overnight.
