The Nurse Administrator supervises, leads, and coordinates nursing activities and nursing personnel. This position evaluates nursing activities to ensure patient care, staff relations and efficiency of service. The Nurse Manager coordinates all medical care and works closely with the Medical Director for all aspects of nursing and medical care of patients. Essential Job Functions: Adheres to all DBH Policy and Procedures. Conducts self in a manner that represents DBH mission, vision and values. Meets productivity standards and performs duties as workload necessitates. Oversees nursing operations to uphold established mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan. Provides direct supervision and leadership to nursing staff. Must be knowledgeable in all company policies and procedures and have knowledge of state regulatory requirements, CARF or TJC standards as applicable. Develops training materials for nursing staff to include training videos and materials. Trains, meets with and provides feedback to nurses on best practices, performance, and competency. Performs MAR audits to ensure accuracy and compliance. Reviews any medication errors, to provide educational opportunities to staff. Participates in the utilization review process and communicates with the nursing team on related patient authorizations. Audits and ensures the med rooms are compliant with regulatory requirements. Demonstrates knowledge of the Code of Ethics. Follow up on obtaining missing employee documentation, monitoring HR compliance and incident reports. Maintains internal employee files to ensure regulatory compliance. Consults with physicians, therapists, case managers, leadership and any others as needed. Performs chart audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with policy and regulatory requirements. Onboards new employees in the nursing department, validates competencies and ensures continuous training as required. Participation and follow up with any committee tasks. Participates in leadership meetings, performance improvement projects, risk reduction strategies and staff retention initiatives. Monitors census within the facility and ensures appropriate nursing staffing in accordance with regulations. Must be able to effectively communicate with physicians regarding orders, care plans, medications, and provide guidance to nursing staff. Covers shifts when needed to ensure appropriate nursing coverage. Provides on-call support. Responds to emergencies 24-7. Any other duties as assigned. Core Competencies: Ability to adequately perform all aspects of the nursing staff’s role, and ability to train nursing staff on protocols, functions of the nursing department, assessment, patient care, etc. in accordance with regulatory guidelines and DBH policy and procedures. Knowledge of industry standards: organization, theory, principles, quality improvement and change management techniques, financial analysis, budget process and planning, accreditation and regulatory standards, strategic planning principles, ability to assess nursing care requirements based on nursing principles, and scope of practice. Demonstrates leadership ability and related knowledge. Demonstrates advanced understanding or the population being treated as evidenced by proper documentation. Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects and potential toxicity. Must be able to correctly utilize, read, notify appropriate medical personnel, perform and/or document breathalyzer, vital signs, EKG, NG Tube placement and monitoring, urinalysis, collection cups, pregnancy dip sticks, TB tests, blood draws and process urine drug screens. Knowledge, Education, Experience: Must be a graduate of an approved nursing program with a current licensure from an appropriate state licensing board. RN preferred; LVN/LPN required. In programs that employ RN’s, RN licensure is required. *In the Eating Division, this position an RN is required. Preferred: Experience as a staff nurse, preferably in the field of chemical dependency, eating disorders and/or behavioral health. Possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (CPR and First Aid) certification Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire. Knowledge of industry standards: organization, theory, principles, and research processes, accreditation and regulatory standards, ability to assess clinical care requirements based on nursing principles, scope of practice. Basic knowledge and understanding of substance use disorders and addiction, eating disorders and behavioral health. Familiar with behavior change, recovery models, and treatment methods Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects, and potential toxicity. *Eating Disorder Division: Obtain Serv Safe certification within 90 days of hire.
