Job Summary

Functions under the direction of the Learning & Development Manager. The Epic Principal Trainer possesses competencies in educational theory and mastery of educational design, implementation, and evaluation, as well as a sound knowledge of how technology is situated in the workflow of clinicians and others within healthcare; in particular, the electronic health record. The role will develop and maintain course curricula and supporting training materials, design robust evaluation methods, act as a content expert for creating and providing training for the Epic application, build and maintain the training environment, manage updates to policy and procedure documentation related to training, conduct training for new staff, provide refresher training, and coordinate training for software upgrades and updates. Core Responsibilities

Uses Adult Learning Theory to develop world-class EPIC training by designing and developing role-based training programs to support the approved workflows and associated policies and procedures. Develops and maintains the EPIC training environment in a manner consistent with the overall training strategy which includes a simulated environment that mirrors the health system’s facilities, resources and patients. Develops e‑Learning modules as necessary to support the overall training strategy. Coordinates the training logistics (courses, classrooms, registrations, timeframes, etc.) in collaboration with other department team members and department managers. Prepares training materials used during training sessions. Develops evaluation of training programs and ongoing assessment of training materials. Maintains system documentation. Uses Adult Learning Theory to deliver Epic Training. Trains end‑users on proper use of the application. Manages work of supplemental trainers as necessary. Trains newly‑hired employees as part of their orientation. Provides demonstrations of system functionality. Coordinates training of end‑users for upgrades, new releases, etc. Provides on‑call training to clinicians (e.g., physicians, nurses, etc.) as dictated by operational needs. Acts as the content expert to provide support for the WellStar Connect Project team in the area of training. Leads training initiatives for small and medium‑sized IT system projects. Understands the IT project life cycle (initiation, planning, execution, and closure) as directed by the EPMO. Works closely with project leaders and managers and assists with the development of project plans. Leads planning, developing, execution and tracking of training for IT System Projects. Analyzes workflows, documents proposed training plans, and promotes process changes to support the proficient use of the system. Collaborates with Application Analysts, Subject Matter Experts, and Operational Leaders in the design and development of role‑based training programs to support the workflows to be implemented. Supports end‑users onsite during go‑live events. Required Minimum Education

High school diploma required or equivalent. Associate’s Degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Required Minimum License(s) & Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Additional License(s) & Certification(s)

Certified in Epic application or must complete Epic certification within 180 days. Required upon hire. Must maintain Epic certification in assigned application module to assure Epic active status. Required Minimum Experience

Experience as an instructor, educator or facilitator of learning programs is strongly preferred. If not, must complete WellStar Educator Immersion program within 3 months of employment and successfully complete all aspects of the training. Exposure to and knowledge of healthcare, clinical practice settings and clinical workflow in a hospital setting is strongly preferred. Required Minimum Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be organized and able to analyze and troubleshoot problems. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of project management tools, methodologies and techniques. Ability to multi‑task is essential, as is the ability to function in stressful and emergent situations. Strong detail orientation and time management skills are required.
