High school diploma or GED; five years of progressively responsible experience in landfill field operations work including two years of supervisory experience. Cashiering operations, heavy equipment maintenance, trucking operations, waste management, and contractor administration experience is strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Solid computer and calculator skills are required; good customer service, conflict management, and communication skills, as well as accurate record keeping are necessary. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The Assistant Operations Manager reports to the Operations Manager and works with Site Supervisors to manage day-to-day convenience center operations, including contractor administration, equipment maintenance, hazardous waste management, employee training, and point of sale operations. Oversees convenience center operations in the absence of the Operations Manager; provides support to the Division Manager and other professional staff within General Services; assists with site Hazardous Waste Coordinator duties with a key focus on protecting human health and the environment; ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations; assists with the oversight of the Storm Debris Management program. Performs other work as required. Safety is the top priority. PLEASE NOTE: Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment. 40 hours per week; 8-hour shifts; Monday – Friday, may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
