Job Summary The Buyer/Planner is responsible for customer service, optimizing inventory, and communicating needs to suppliers. This role involves coordinating with internal teams and suppliers to meet production and customer service goals, while effectively managing stock levels and resolving any issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with Materials Manager, other Buyer/Planners, Manufacturing Supervisors, Engineers, and Operators.
Manage stock and non-stock orders in a manufacturing environment.
Accomplish plant customer service and inventory objectives (Raw, WIP, Buffers, Bulk) through effective inventory management and materials planning for assigned commodities and operational schedules.
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, foreseeing potential roadblocks and providing recommendations or notifying management.
Issue forecasts to selected vendors to assure reliable supply chain performance.
Assist with raw material/WIP warehousing and shipping/receiving functions as required.
Create shop orders and schedule work centers.
Provide shortage reports for areas of responsibility.
Reschedule orders (push in and out) as needed.
Review component inventory levels.
Run MRP, create purchase orders, and resolve invoices.
Expedite orders with manufacturing and vendors.
React to and manage quality issues with suppliers.
Work with the Quality Department to review and disposition non-conforming material.
Report product line performance.
Communicate status of orders to Customer Service Representatives when requested.
Evaluate inventory turns on raw, WIP, and finished goods.
Assist in cost roll by maintaining accurate part data (info records).
Communicate with internal and external auditors as necessary.
Fully support the plant Health, Safety, and Environmental Plan.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (any discipline) or Supply Chain Management, or Bachelor’s Degree in another field with at least 1 year of supply chain experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
Working knowledge and proficiency in SAP systems.
Extensive knowledge of bill of materials and routings, preferably in BUS.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Independent analysis and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
APICS CPIM certification or a clear plan to obtain it.
Lean certification or relevant knowledge.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
Physical Requirements
Work in a factory environment (steel-toe shoes, safety glasses; hearing protection and hard hat may be required).
Work collaboratively with all plant branches.
Adjust plan/schedule to meet customer demands and deadlines.
Move throughout the facility, including stairs.
Sit or stand for prolonged periods as required.
Work long hours, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
Bend, squat, kneel, reach, and lift occasionally.
