Major Gifts Officer
to join our Philanthropy team. This individual will play a key role in advancing our mission by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major, principal, and planned giving donors — including individuals, corporations, and private foundations — who contribute gifts of $10,000 and above.
Position Overview As an integral member of the Major Gifts team, the Major Gifts Officer develops and executes strategic fundraising plans that align with the institution's philanthropic priorities and goals. This position collaborates closely with the Grateful Patient Program, Annual Giving team, and institutional leadership to build meaningful donor relationships that result in transformational support for UTMC and UTHSC COM‑Knoxville.
The Major Gifts Officer reports to the
Senior Director, Major Gifts .
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of
125‑150 major donor prospects
capable of making gifts of $10,000‑$500,000+ and partner with senior leadership on principal gifts.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and planned gift donors, achieving an
80% proposal close rate
and advancing donor relationships through the Donor Engagement Process.
Proactively qualify and add new prospects each year to ensure a robust and sustainable pipeline of potential donors. Professional networking and serving in the community is highly encouraged.
Strategic Proposals
Prepare compelling proposals and presentations for individuals, families, corporations, and private foundations. Work with leadership to maximize impact and aligning with organizational priorities.
Metrics
In addition to an annual dollar goal, achieve an annual average of
200+ high‑value donor interactions , while meeting annual goals for visits, solicitations, and pursuits.
Internal Collaboration
Build strong partnerships with hospital administrators and physician leaders within assigned service lines.
Contribute to campaign and initiative reporting, participate in pipeline meetings, and support preparation for executive‑level prospect discussions.
Events & Stewardship
Represent the Philanthropy team at donor events, including campaign events, prospecting events, etc., and support all aspects of donor engagement, recognition, and event logistics.
Job Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of direct fundraising experience in healthcare, higher education, or other nonprofit.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; written and verbal.
• High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
• Experience working with executive leadership.
