Orchestra Strings Section Coach - Cello
Third Street Music School Settlement is seeking a part‑time Cello Coach to support students in our orchestra programs.
Compensation Large Ensemble Coach/Assistant Teacher: $43–$49 per hour; Miscellaneous and Meetings: $32 per hour.
Position Overview Rehearsals take place weekly throughout the 32‑week school year. The Coach can choose to coach one, multiple, or all rehearsal days. Immediate availability is preferred.

Mon 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Wed 4:45 – 7:45 PM
Thu 4:45 – 7:15 PM
Responsibilities
Provide in‑rehearsal support and coaching to cello students.
Play alongside students during rehearsals and concerts.
Reinforce technical skills, musicianship, rhythm, intonation, bowing, fingering, articulation, and ensemble awareness appropriate to each orchestra level.
Collaborate closely with conductors and artistic leadership to align coaching with rehearsal goals and repertoire.
Provide constructive feedback to students that supports their musical growth and confidence.
Attend scheduled rehearsals, performances, meetings, and professional development as required.
Assist with room set‑up.
Engage in the overall work and mission of Third Street and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Skills and Qualifications
Degree in music performance, music education, or equivalent professional experience in cello.
Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth ensembles, orchestras, or string students in a teaching or coaching capacity.
Strong ensemble skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to young musicians.
Availability to work in person on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts education.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, families, and artistic staff.
