Team Sports Leader (Basketball Scorekeeper)
The City of Pocatello is seeking a Team Sports Leader to perform a variety of tasks that support youth and adult sports leagues. The role may involve manually or electronically keeping score for basketball, volleyball, and softball games; assisting with facility set‑up and take‑down; organizing the scorekeeping area; and monitoring activities during events.
Responsibilities include:
Act as the referee or scorekeeper for softball, basketball, or volleyball games.
Keep time for games using an electronic scoreboard.
Record team rosters in the scorebook and maintain an accurate account of each game.
Document any accidents or incidents that occur during games.
Clean up any trash in the scorekeeper/timer area before leaving the gym or field.
Record daily scores and report them to the Team Sports Office in a timely manner.
Manage timeouts and communicate with game officials when a timeout ends.
Keep an accurate record of the amount of time each player plays, as prescribed by the rules.
Provide all participants and spectators with a safe, friendly, and positive game experience.
Oversee the care, oversight, and safety of the assigned gymnasium facility.
Deliver excellent customer service to ensure a safe and participant‑friendly environment, communicate program information, and engage in active listening to build relationships.
Assist scorekeepers by locating coaches, directing them to fill out their scorebooks fifteen minutes before play begins.
Provide oversight of assigned City and School District building areas, including hallway inspections, walk‑throughs, bathroom inspections, and sweeping/mopping of gym floors as needed.
Communicate issues, concerns, or accidents immediately to the Team Sports Program Manager.
Accept that management may reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Knowledge of rules and regulations of basketball, volleyball, and/or softball.
Experience participating in the named sport preferred.
CPR and/or Basic First Aid Certification preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Physical requirements: The employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces; handle materials, use computer equipment, and operate job‑related equipment; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance; and may need to drive a vehicle. Adequate visual and hearing acuity is required to perform essential functions.
