Position Summary Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervising the warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Responsibilities include planning inbound and outbound volume, customer communication activities, space utilization and management, equipment management, hiring, training, labor management planning, performance appraisals, and problem resolution.
As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet company objectives in the areas of performance, safety, and quality and to comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably.
Manages operations to meet productivity and service goals and comply with client SLAs.
Drives continuous improvement initiatives and proposes cost‑saving measures.
Ensures compliance with client KPI’s and quality system requirements.
Provides motivational leadership, fair supervision, counseling, and discipline.
Collaborates with Human Resources for hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
Keeps senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues.
Plans daily work schedule and assigns duties to warehouse staff.
Reorganizes warehouse space and adjusts supplies, equipment, or staffing as needed.
Management Information Systems
Ensures team proficiency in required information systems including WMS.
Manages procurement of software and hardware in accordance with IT policies.
Stays current with technology changes and develops client system proficiency.
Customer Management
Maintains high‑level customer service standards across all functions.
Provides operational and administrative support to client accounts.
Maintains contact with all functions and responds to requests.
Leads meetings with key customers to discuss issues.
Coordinated supplier/customer visits to the site.
Promotes positive client relationships through excellent service.
Budgeting/Financials
Supports development of an annual operating budget.
Manages controls to meet cost, revenue, and profit targets.
Ensures compliance with contract guidelines during budgeting and pricing.
Equipment & Facilities
Maintains sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and MHE standards.
Provides MHE training to team members.
Recommends technology upgrades as appropriate.
Safety
Achieves safety metrics by fostering a proactive safety culture.
Audits for compliance with safety, security, and quality principles.
Ensures adherence to statutory health and safety requirements.
Other Duties
Works overtime as dictated by business needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages warehouse operations supervisors and support staff.
Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and planning skills. Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends. Proficiency in adapting to change in a fast‑paced environment.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED (required).
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
7 years of experience in a logistics/distribution environment.
5 years of supervisory experience.
Ability to work in unregulated temperatures ranging from mild to moderate seasons.
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated proficiency with applicable WMS systems.
Language Skills
English (reading, writing, speaking).
Business communication proficiency at all levels.
Other
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
Good organizational and personnel skills.
Good written and oral communication skills.
