THE POSITION Under the general supervision of the Public Works Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will: perform a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled street lighting, traffic and pedestrian signal maintenance, repair and installation work; install and maintain electrical systems and equipment; perform related work as required.

WORK SCHEDULE This is a benefited, full‑time position with working hours assigned at the discretion of the department. Candidates may be required to work irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or be on‑call.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform semi‑skilled and journey‑level electrical work; install and maintain street lighting, traffic and pedestrian signals.

Inspect, repair, service and maintain electrical and lighting systems, including conduit and duct systems, light and power circuits, motor appliances, generators, breaker panels, fans, heaters, fixtures and clocks.

Maintain and repair heating and air‑conditioning equipment; install interior wiring for equipment and appliances; wire new and altered buildings.

Follow a preventive‑maintenance plan, perform inspections and repairs, troubleshoot electrical systems to locate defects, replace fuses, cords and sockets.

Install, test and maintain intercommunication systems; interpret electrical plans and specifications; verify conformity with codes, regulations and safety orders.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

One year of responsible work experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical equipment.

Completion of college‑level courses in electronics and digital theory, principles and operations is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles is required and a good driving record is necessary. An incumbent is subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program which provides periodic information on the incumbent’s driving record.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The employee is regularly required to walk, talk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to handle tools or controls; and reach with hands or arms. The employee frequently must stand and lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The role requires close, distance, color, depth, and focus vision. Respirators are required regularly; employees must meet CAL/OHSA respirator requirements. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, on uneven surfaces, with exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, chemicals and risk of electric shock.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION • The position is represented by the Lynwood Employees’ Association/AFSCME Local 1920 (LEA). • Employees may be required to work a varying flexible schedule, including weekdays and weekends. • All City employees are registered as Emergency Disaster Workers and may be called upon to perform emergency service duties.
