About the Role
The Senior Manager of Inventory Planning is a key leadership role responsible for developing and executing inventory strategies that ensure optimal stock levels, strong in-stock performance, and cost-efficient operations. This role oversees demand forecasting, purchasing workflows, inventory accuracy, and cross‑functional alignment with Supply Chain, Merchandising, Finance, and Operations. The ideal candidate is analytical, process‑driven, results‑oriented, and highly skilled in advanced inventory planning tools.
Key Responsibilities Inventory Strategy & Optimization
Develop and implement advanced inventory planning strategies to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time.
Optimize inventory levels to balance demand, working capital, and service goals.
Identify opportunities to improve forecasting accuracy, inventory turnover, and supply chain efficiency.
Forecasting & Demand Planning
Analyze historical sales data, market trends, and seasonality to create accurate demand forecasts.
Collaborate with Merchandising and Sales to refine forecasts and support product launches or promotions.
Supply Chain & Purchasing Management
Oversee the creation, approval, and management of purchase orders.
Partner with suppliers, logistics, and operations teams to ensure on‑time delivery and resolve supply disruptions.
Monitor lead times, vendor performance, and supply chain risks.
Inventory Control & Reporting
Maintain high inventory accuracy across multiple locations or channels.
Manage cycle counts, reconciliation processes, and root‑cause analysis for variances.
Develop dashboards and reporting tools to track KPIs (e.g., fill rate, turn rate, aging, DOH).
Process Leadership & Systems Management
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain and inventory processes.
Utilize ERP systems and advanced Excel models to streamline workflows and reporting.
Provide training and mentorship to inventory planning team members.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or related field.
7+ years of experience in inventory planning, supply chain, or demand planning (with at least 3 years in a leadership role).
Strong experience managing purchase orders, vendor relationships, and inventory control processes.
Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, forecasting models).
Hands‑on experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.
Preferred
Experience in multi‑location retail, manufacturing, or e‑commerce environments.
APICS CPIM or CSCP certification.
Strong understanding of supply chain lead times, logistics, and replenishment models.
