Front Office Specialist II / Medical Assistant - TC Urgent Care Medical Center Texas Children's Hospital

Job Description Front Office Specialist II in the Urgent Care setting who works well in a fast‑paced environment. Responsible for both clinical and non‑clinical duties, gathering patient data, assessing the child’s condition, providing direct care, collaborating with the healthcare team, and delivering population‑appropriate care for low‑acuity pediatric patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with the collection of patient/family data.

Collect patient/family data including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol.

Collect and document vital signs, height/weight, and reason for visit.

Graph data per site protocol.

Document current medications, allergies, and other information per site protocol with 100% accuracy.

Use scripting where appropriate.

Adhere to standards of behavior.

Coordinate referrals, ensuring that the family has the contact information for referral and any necessary documentation.

Provide general patient care.

Administer medication and immunizations.

Collect specimens and perform laboratory tests.

Provide operational support, perform reception duties and screen phone calls.

Review billing information and process patient payments.

Maintain integrity of medical records and monitor patient information and other practice data.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Skills & Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Graduation from a medical assisting or emergency medical technician program (preferred).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (required).

Minimum of 2 years related experience.

Staffed by board‑certified pediatricians who have privileges at Texas Children’s Hospital, the Urgent Care team diagnoses and treats a wide variety of common pediatric ailments—including asthma, strep throat, fever, minor burns, influenza, ear infections, allergic reactions and more. The center also provides procedures such as antibiotic injections, breathing treatments, fracture care and splinting, IV fluids, lab services, laceration repair and on‑site x‑rays.
