Piper Shores is Maine’s only non‑profit Continuing Care Retirement Community. We are looking for a full‑time Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to support and coordinate high‑quality clinical care within our 40‑bed skilled/LTC nursing home through strong leadership, staff supervision, and training & development initiatives. This role oversees clinical employee education, competency development, and the employee health program, ensuring staff are well‑prepared and compliant with all regulatory standards. The position also provides oversight of infection prevention practices, promoting a safe and healthy environment for residents, staff, and visitors. In the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer, the ADON serves as a clinical leader and operational backup, helping to maintain continuity of care and supporting the overall nursing operations of the Health Center. Essential Job Duties

Performs direct supervision of staff, including recommending education, training, and disciplinary action and providing input for performance reviews of Nursing and Certified staff. Supports nursing operational guidelines by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedure. Conducts nursing rounds several times a day in all levels of care to ensure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment. Meets with all shifts during the week, including one weekend day shift per month. Provides assistance and support as needed in scheduling of Nursing and C.N.A. staff for compliance and efficiency facilitating adequate staffing to meet resident needs, acuity, and census. Responds to emergency calls as necessary. Performs duties of charge nurse as needed to meet resident care needs. Participates in QA, Risk Management, and UR meetings; completes audits and reports related to infection control, safety, and pharmacy. Leads antibiotic stewardship and falls program meetings and prepares reports related to infection control, falls, and antibiotic use. Oversees facility electronic medical record usage, ensuring compliance with facility policies and State/Federal regulations; provides in-service training and ongoing staff support. Participates in coordination of admissions and discharges of Health Center residents. Maintains the self‑respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident. Provides mandatory training, coaching, and development for employees, including new hire orientation for all clinical staff. Ensures new Health Center employees receive competency‑based training and skills validation. Conducts in‑service education and continuous competency‑based training for clinical staff, ensuring C.N.A.s complete a minimum of 12 hours of documented annual training. Coordinates and facilitates dementia and person‑centered care training programs. Ensures compliance with staff development and educational program requirements for all licensed health care programs (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care). Serves as a member of the Piper Shores Training Committee. Coordinates with Training and Development Specialist to maintain accurate training records in employee personnel files. Coordinates and posts monthly Holbrook training schedule. Coordinates C.N.A. and CRMA training on site with credentialed contractors. Employee Health & Safety

Ensures compliance with employee vaccination requirements including maintaining records of State of Maine mandatory vaccinations, scheduling titers as needed and updating annual vaccination records. Coordinates onsite vaccination and booster clinics partnering with Clinical Leadership across Piper Shores levels of care. Ensures compliance with TB testing and record maintenance. Oversees respirator program, including fit‑testing and record maintenance. Develops, administers, and manages the Infection prevention and control & antibiotic stewardship programs for the Holbrook. Acts as infection preventionist nurse and assures compliance with education, regulatory, and reporting requirements. Other Responsibilities

Provides support to the Clinical Leadership Team. Serves “on call” on weekends and after normal working hours. Serves as a member of the Holbrook Leadership Team and General Leadership Team. Attends in‑service training and education sessions, as assigned. Performs other duties as reasonably requested. Qualifications

Must have current RN license in the State of Maine. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required. Minimum of 4 years of experience as a licensed nurse preferred. Minimum of 2 years of geriatric nursing or long‑term care experience, with a thorough understanding of State of Maine regulations, or equivalent state regulations. Experience with person‑centered care and delivery required, experience with memory care preferred. Proven ability to facilitate adult learning in a small group setting required. Excellent communication skills including verbal and written, presentation skills, ability to connect with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Proficient with technology including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn Matrixcare/AOD. Current CPR certification or ability to obtain prior to employment required. Benefits
