Responsibilities
Operations Management and Administration – 80%
Reviews all available insurances and selects the appropriate primary payor to bill, interpreting patient’s insurance plan and prioritizes the coordination of benefits.
Verifies patient eligibility and benefits and confirms insurance is active in Ohio Living network.
Identifies accurate patient liability to include on patient admission agreement for patient’s informed consent on cost of care.
Verifies and validates that new patients are not receiving HH/Hospice services from any other provider.
Enters all benefit and eligibility data to initiate opening new patient files in the EMR, and reverifies current patient’s payors every 1st of each month while receiving services.
Labels and attaches all clinical documents into EMR for use by clinicians, office staff, authorizations, billing, etc.
Utilizes EMR systems, payor portals, and other computer programs to determine benefit eligibility.
Ensures timely completion of intake process to satisfy requests of patients and referral sources, which may entail working after normal hours, on weekends, and on holidays as required.
Quality and Compliance Management – 10%
Maintains current and accurate records through use of computers and/or other documentation in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
Maintains knowledge of requirements of regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and third‑party payers.
Obtains and reviews pertinent demographic and medical information from patients, referral sources, and location staff.
Sales and Marketing Management – 10%
Answers all phone inquiries from consumers and referral sources, along with making outbound calls to previous patients, to assist them in accessing appropriate home health and hospice services and benefits and ultimately retaining them as a patient.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with referral sources, patients and/or caregivers, Business Development, Billing, and site staff.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
One year experience in an insurance or payor role within home health or hospice agency preferred.
Experience with utilizing payor portals preferred.
Experience with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) or another EMR Database required.
Experience with accurate data entry required.
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required.
Other Requirements
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language proficiently.
Working Conditions and Special Requirements
Sitting – Up to 8 hours/day
Standing – Up to 4 hours/day
Walking – Up to 2 hours/day
Lifting, transferring, pushing or pulling equipment/supplies – Up to 25 pounds
Work weekends, evenings, and holidays – Required as scheduled
On‑call availability – Scheduled rotation
