Job Responsibilities
Assist the Resident Bridge Engineer (RBE) in all aspects of bridge maintenance in District 4.
Provide guidance to bridge maintenance crews in the absence of the RBE.
Assist in overseeing performance and scheduling of Bridge Maintenance Crews to ensure optimum productivity and quality, and adherence to plans, specifications, and standard drawings.
Conduct weekly foreman meetings on behalf of the RBE and report weekly location assignments of the crews to the RBE, DBE, and District OSHA staff.
Coordinate training and scheduling for new CDLs, crane certifications, and other certifications as needed.
Schedule and organize monthly safety meetings.
Assist in reviewing HMMS records and data for completeness and accuracy.
Coordinate new and returned uniforms and monitor compliance on behalf of the RBE.
Assist in reviewing Bridge Inspection Reports and evaluating critical findings and bridge flags to determine appropriate repairs, materials, equipment, tools, job site hazards, and schedule.
Assist in reviewing vehicles, equipment, and multiple facilities including monitoring preventative maintenance, inspection of crane hoists and slings, quarterly facility inspections, fuel usage, nurse tanks, and monthly fuel logs.
Assist in ensuring the safety of Bridge Maintenance employees by performing routine safety inspections.
Obtain CEPSCI certification to review compliance at all job sites.
Assist in procurement of all tools and materials necessary for Bridge Maintenance activities in accordance with the State Procurement Code.
Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations throughout the District and State, including special inspections after events such as maintenance repairs, rehabilitations, collisions, or natural disasters.
Be available for extended hours or shift operations as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and 4.5 years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
Motor vehicle operator’s license required.
Physical Demands Sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time; occasional travel; bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, and kneel; drive and walk for extended periods; tread rough and uneven terrain; work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards; lift up to 50 lbs.; work outside normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies; exposure to outdoor environment in all weather conditions and noise.
