Job Description The Project Superintendent (PS) plans, coordinates, and supervises field and/or administrative operations for construction projects. The PS provides technical direction, ensures safety, controls costs, drives productivity, and maintains quality. The role includes establishing productivity goals, measuring performance, scheduling labor, materials and equipment, supervising subcontractors, and overseeing field superintendents. This position is structured in progressive steps based on skill and experience.
Project Superintendent Levels
Project Superintendent I - $20 million and under, 3–5 years of experience.
Project Superintendent II - $20–$50 million projects, 5–10 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing shop drawings, submittals, change orders, and purchase orders.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop the project management plan (PMP) covering scope, procurement, environmental, schedule, finance, quality, safety, and risk.
Conduct weekly coordination meetings, prepare daily field status reports.
Document constructability issues, design conflicts, and clarifications with relevant personnel.
Develop and manage the construction plan for successful execution.
Ensure work meets contract terms profitably.
Interact with owners, teams, and stakeholders to maintain a positive project environment and client experience.
Manage field operations and be responsible for profitability, safety, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Prepare and update the CPM project schedule, maintaining it with LEAN processes.
Prevent, identify, quantify, document, mitigate, and resolve claims promptly.
Provide leadership and guidance to project team members and subcontractors.
Develop and implement the project quality and safety plans per Sundt standards.
Ensure timely completion of punch lists and schedule commissioning of all systems.
Minimum Job Requirements
Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills.
Four‑year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and/or experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, engineering, cost control, scheduling, and safety.
Project and supervision experience in similar facilities.
Physical Requirements
Must wear personal protective equipment.
Frequently reach above shoulder height and below waist.
Occasionally stoop, kneel, or bend.
Use telephone, computer, or other electronic devices on a limited basis.
Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
Occasionally climb stairs or ladders.
Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects frequently.
Interact regularly with people during work.
Occasionally lift, push, or pull objects.
Walk, stand, or sit for whole shift.
Safety Level Safety‑Sensitive – includes tasks that could affect safety and health, such as operating vehicles, equipment, machinery, handling hazardous materials, or dealing with flammable substances.
