What You Will Do The Buyer/Planner at PennEngineering supports manufacturing by ensuring timely and cost‑effective procurement of materials and services. This role collaborates with internal teams and suppliers to meet customer demand, production needs, and inventory goals using MRP/MPS planning tools, focusing on supplier performance, inventory optimization, and continuous improvement.
What We Are Looking For
Create and manage purchase orders for raw materials, components, and finished goods based on MRP and MPS requirements.
Manage inventory parameters such as EOQ, lead times, and safety stock to meet service levels and targets.
Monitor purchase orders from issuance to delivery, addressing delays and changes in demand.
Collaborate with Production Planning, Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure achievable master production schedules.
Work with logistics partners for on‑time delivery and efficient shipment tracking.
Maintain strong supplier relationships for competitive pricing and quality.
Identify new suppliers to enhance cost, quality, and supply continuity.
Analyze reports to identify risks and opportunities, communicating findings to stakeholders.
Support continuous improvement in planning accuracy and supplier performance.
Serve as backup to the Production Planner when needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Skills That Will Help You Be Successful In This Role
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
3–5 years of experience in manufacturing with purchasing, planning, or supply chain responsibilities.
APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) preferred.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably JD Edwards (JDE).
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment for a standard workday.
Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
Visual acuity required for detailed data review and analysis.
Occasional travel by car or air to visit suppliers or vendors may be required.
