Position Overview
The Indy Arts Council seeks a contract Public Art Project Manager to support new public art at the Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center. The Project Manager will curate and manage the commissioning and execution of a mural in a private area of the new facility. This is a position with significant independent responsibility.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Managing client communications and artist correspondence
Artist recruitment through open calls and direct outreach
Managing project budget and overseeing expenditures
Installation planning and coordination of on-site fabrication
Support for marketing and promotional activities
Additional administrative tasks as needed
Compensation
Total contract payment of $10,000 for delivery of the completed artwork.
Work may be conducted remotely and independently; however, the contractor must be local to Indianapolis for periodic client meetings and site visits.
Office space and equipment are not provided.
This is a temporary contract offer and does not include employee benefits.
Qualifications & Experience
Education in the visual arts, arts or office administration, art history, museum studies, project management, or a related field (associate’s degree or higher preferred, not required).
Demonstrated experience completing mural projects valued at $25,000+, including managing an open call selection process for public and private clients.
The ideal candidate is a freelance, independent public art project curator and project manager.
Due to funding requirements, applicants must already be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.
Technical Skills
Strong communication skills, verbal and written, via email, phone, and video conference platforms
Basic math and spreadsheet skills for budgeting and expense tracking (Excel or Google Sheets preferred) and client-ready document preparation
Fluent in spoken and written English
Personal Attributes
Creative and resourceful
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Able to manage multiple tasks effectively
