Metrology Technician

Summary:
The Metrology Technician will be responsible for operating advanced metrology equipment to support both internal projects and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience with laser tracking systems and spatial analysis tools, with a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and problem‑solving. This role will have an 8‑16 week training program at our German headquarters followed by 8‑16 weeks of additional training at BA‑US service locations. This will be based out of BA‑US headquarters in Elk Grove Village, IL and travel up to 70% of the year.
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly Range: $31.00 – $46.00

Education & experience:
Associate’s degree/Technical degree or Bachelor’s in metrology, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or similar discipline
3+ years of experience operating Leica Laser Tracker systems or similar metrology equipment
3+ years machine operation experience, preferably Siemens machines
1-3 years machine assembly experience
Mechanical experience with CNC machine tools (desired)
Qualifications:
Proficiency with Spatial Analyzer software and data analysis tools
Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and precision
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation
Ability to recognize and evaluate complex three‑dimensional relationships
Proficiency with standard machine tools and precision measurement equipment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Strong problem‑solving abilities with a proactive approach to challenges
Proficiency with MS Office, ERP applications (SAP)
Experience with aerial platforms, working with heights
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the year, and active US passport
Job Responsibilities:
Operate Leica Laser Tracker AT500 to perform precision measurements of machine components and assemblies
Incorporate measured data into Siemens controller compensation tables
Gather, analyze, and report measurement data using Spatial Analyzer software
Perform machine compensation measurements to ensure accuracy and functionality
Support customer requests for measurement services and provide technical expertise as needed
Assist in project startup by performing measurement and alignment tasks for internal initiatives
Support quality inspection processes to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and standards
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve measurement and quality‑related issues
Maintain proper documentation of measurement activities and results
