Founded in 1954, Gaines and Company is a premier residential and commercial site developer with a reputation for excellence. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dedicated shop team.
Job Summary In this role, you will be a vital part of our maintenance operations, ensuring our extensive fleet of heavy machinery remains in peak operating condition. Working primarily out of our fully equipped shop, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of diesel-powered equipment. This position requires a deep technical understanding of heavy machinery, superior diagnostic skills, and a commitment to keeping our projects moving forward through high-quality mechanical support.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive maintenance and repairs on heavy diesel-powered equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and other specialized construction machinery.
Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and diesel engine issues within a shop environment.
Execute routine maintenance services, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and detailed inspections of diesel engines and associated systems.
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, electrical components, and diesel engine assemblies.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all maintenance and repair activities performed.
Collaborate with the shop team to manage workflow and prioritize urgent repairs.
Perform maintenance and repairs on light trucks and support vehicles as required.
Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to all safety protocols and maintaining an organized workspace.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in heavy equipment and diesel engine maintenance and repair.
Technical Expertise: Strong mechanical skills with a specialized focus on diesel engines.
Diagnostic Skills: Excellent troubleshooting abilities, particularly with complex diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Versatility: Proficiency in light truck maintenance and repair is preferred.
Work Ethic: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a shop team while managing time efficiently.
Requirements: Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Education: Post-secondary degree or certification in heavy equipment/diesel mechanics is preferred but not required.
Tools & Tech: Familiarity with modern diagnostic tools and the electronic components of complex machinery.
