Specific Responsibilities Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a MAGTF Senior Advisor to provide expert teaching, training, advice and recommendations for students through academic Programs of Instruction, decision‑making wargames, Warfighting Seminars (WFS), Senior‑level Working Groups, Command Post Exercises (CPXs), Operational Planning Team (OPT) Practical Planning Applications (PPA), and After Action Reviews (AAR) conducted by the MAGTF Staff Training Program (MSTP), Training and Education Command, Marine Corps Combat Development Command (MCCDC), Quantico, Virginia. The mission of the MSTP is to provide training in MAGTF operations across the range of military operations, within the context of a Joint and/or Combined environment, to improve the warfighting skills of senior commanders and their staff.
Required Skills/Qualifications
Serve as expert on concepts and techniques associated with warfighting at tactical and operational levels in a joint and combined environment.
Augment and support formal training and education programs focused on training career Marines at formal Professional Military Education programs.
Provide classroom environment instructions, leading seminar discussions.
Support MSTP as it plans and executes Programs of Instruction (POI) for various Marine Corps University (MCU) academic courses, including the Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW), the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Final Exercise, the General Officer Warfighting Program (GOWP) and the MCU Strategy and Policy Course. Also support MSTP in its annual instruction to the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Science at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Provide lessons and experience working with Marine and Joint organizations.
Provide feedback, advice and counsel on plans developed by the students during the courses.
Provide instruction and lead discussions on warfighting topics during courses.
Provide lessons and experience from tenure as a general officer.
Provide enduring fundamentals for those transitioning into the flag‑officer ranks.
Desired Skills/Qualifications
Possess extensive knowledge of the Marine Air Ground Task Force mission, organization, deployment, employment, staff organization and functioning to include the command and control of a MEF or MEB Command Element, Marine Division, Wing or Logistics Group.
Retired United States Marine Corps (USMC) General Officer who commanded at the MEF/MEB level or at the Major Subordinate Command level of Marine Division, Wing or Logistics Group.
Possess extensive knowledge of the Joint warfighting doctrine, concepts and employment to include the role of the component in the planning and execution of MEF or MEB operations.
Personal experience working on a Joint staff and possess superior knowledge of Joint doctrine, command relationships, Joint planning, service capabilities and limitations, Joint resources, and command and control of Joint operations.
Possess experience in the planning and execution of Joint operations and exercises at a level comparable to MEFs/MEBs and their MSCs/Major Subordinate Elements (MSEs).
Possess extensive knowledge of USMC sister service organizations, operations, and exercises.
Superior ability to teach and advise a range of personnel from young officers to senior commanders at the General Officer level.
Possess a broad background and expert knowledge of development, design, direction, management and operation of a comprehensive training program.
Possess expert knowledge of doctrine for deployment and employment of forces in support of National Security Strategy and the OPLANS of the various unified Commands.
Possess highly developed skills in writing, developing and publishing position papers, scenarios and POI materials for use internal and external to the Marine Corps.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment Normal office environment.
Travel 15–20% mainly to Quantico, VA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Camp Pendleton, CA, Camp Lejeune, NC, Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan.
