Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering WSP USA

is seeking an Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering. This position can be based out of the following offices: New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL; Houston, TX; and Raleigh, NC.

Provide engineering support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and inspection of port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects. Responsibilities include:

Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports, and drawings.

Develop project design requirements incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.

Identify site, design, and construction related risks and provide input on mitigation activities.

Write technical reports and generate concise documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and engineering software.

Prepare presentations to communicate findings to internal and external team members and clients.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams on federally, state, regional, and locally funded projects.

Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct.

Complete all assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

0 to 1 year of experience; prior engineering internship experience.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization.

Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software, and fundamentals such as statics.

Experience with AutoCAD, SAP2000 or similar tools.

Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.

Occasional travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 to 3 years of post‑education experience, including exposure to ports and marine structures.

EIT Certification.

Experience with Revit, MathCAD, and similar software.

Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles and regulations.

Ability to work schedules beyond the typical workweek if required.
