Position Description Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 83,000 miles of pipelines and 141 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products.
We believe that fuels with a lower‑carbon lifecycle, like RNG, are part of the solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. With our more than 70,000 miles of natural gas pipeline systems that transport approximately 40% of the natural gas consumed and exported in the United States, we are uniquely positioned to transport RNG from coast‑to‑coast without making enhancements to our existing natural gas pipeline network.
Primary Purpose: Monitor and control terminal components such as pumps, compressors, rotating equipment, flare, vessels, tanks, blowers, natural gas compression equipment; electrical systems; utilities systems (air, nitrogen, water sump pumps); fire protection, hazard detection systems; and security systems at an RNG gas processing facility.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Monitor and control terminal components to maintain designated operating parameters, including starting, stopping, and operating engines, pumps, and other equipment.
Assist in the planning and performance of maintenance and repairs on compressors, engines, turbines, auxiliary equipment, pumps, process controls, and related equipment.
Ensure cost‑effective and efficient performance of all gas and liquid processing units and associated equipment.
Monitor product quality to ensure compliance with specifications and take appropriate actions when out‑of‑spec product is identified.
Notify personnel as appropriate of the status of system operations.
Perform governmental compliance activities (DOT, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.), including hazardous waste storage, labeling, inspection, and shipping.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Be prepared to execute emergency response activities at all times.
Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Work rotating shifts and overtime; some travel may be required.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience / Specific Knowledge
Knowledge of compressor, pump, and general processing plant operations.
Knowledge of gas and liquid processing theories and fundamentals.
Experience or familiarity analyzing, adjusting, and making minor repairs on compressors, pumps, and other associated equipment.
Achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications (OQ) and progression requirements applicable to the job classification, including Gas Detection/Alarm System Maintenance/Performance Tests; Inspect/Isolate/Operate/Shut Down/Start Compressor Units (manual and remote); Locating Pipelines; Damage Prevention; Leakage Survey and Investigation; and Valve Maintenance.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Company Insurance Carrier.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
Mechanical aptitude on related equipment.
Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software).
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Customer focus.
Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
Physical Demands
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend/stoop, kneel and climb ladders.
Ability to use hand tools and equipment, with repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motions.
Physical ability to climb stairs above 100 feet and work from elevated platforms.
Working Conditions
Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays; willingness to work overtime and respond to call‑in situations.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
Associate’s Degree in a related field.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and other diagrams.
Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and practices as well as regulatory requirements.
Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high/low pressure systems.
