A company is looking for a Distribution Design Engineer to join their team. This engineer will aid in the upgrades of a major energy provider’s distribution grids.
Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV, mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specification for recommended spans, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
Develop permitting documents for different AHJ’s.
Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools experience.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Construction background, design work, civil engineering, electrical experience and programming experience.
Work Management Systems (WMS) SAP B1 and/or SAGE experience.
Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida‑Calc or similar.
Experience with NESC and other design standards.
