Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II Will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high‑level performance metrics.

DUTIES:

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.

Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including but not limited to Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.

Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including but not limited to Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.

Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.

Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.

Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.

Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.

Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and complete pre‑/post‑trip inspections.

Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.

Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations effectively.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.

Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders ("RO") using the company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.

Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.

Work with a high degree of independence and manage one’s own daily schedule.

Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.

Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.

Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO findings.

Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.

Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post trip inspections.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline, or 5 years’ experience in a related field.

Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.

Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.

May submit a current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining until expiration in lieu of a DOT physical. If the card has 4 months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.

Candidates must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.

Safe drivers needed; a valid state‑of‑residence driver's license is required. Candidates must maintain their Driver Qualification File.

USD 26.06 - 39.13 per hour

Compensation Hourly base pay rate is $26.06 – $39.13/hour. The hourly base may vary within this range based on location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may qualify for additional compensation, including commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or incentive programs.

Benefits (Additional) Employees are eligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month, seven paid holidays throughout the year, and additional leave for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteering, military, and parental leave.
