Job Description AEP is seeking site civil engineers and geotechnical engineers who are searching for an exciting opportunity to join the Civil & Geotechnical Engineering (CGE) group at American Electric Power (AEP). Site Civil Engineer Responsibilities
site grading
stormwater management
drainage design/analysis
roadway design
erosion and sediment control
permitting
surveying
Desired software knowledge/experience:
Autodesk Products – Civil 3D / InfraWorks / ACC
Hydraflow/HydroCAD (or equivalent) stormwater design software
Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities
Earthwork, retaining wall, slope stability and landslide mitigation design
Foundation design (drilled piers, steel grillages, steel caissons, micro piles, helical piles, driven piles, and guy anchors)
Subsurface investigations and desktop geologic research
Geotechnical construction
Desired software knowledge/experience:
SLOPE/W (or equivalent) slope stability software
FAD Tools, LPILE, SHAFT, GROUP, etc. foundation design software
Civil 3D
ArcGIS
What We're Looking For
Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D software is required.
Successful candidates will possess the proven ability to assess and recommend best‑case civil engineering solutions and collaborate with higher level non‑civil engineers and other project stakeholders in solving civil engineering related challenges in consideration of safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk, and liability.
Engineer Associate Qualifications
This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternatives:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non‑ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non‑ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
NOTE: ABET accredited program requirement may be waived at the discretion of VP or Executive level and above based on relevant qualifications and experience.
Where You'll Work Multiple sites available, including Roanoke, VA and Tulsa, OK. On-site at the assigned office location.
Travel (~10%) is required for this position and will consist of trips to the field to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations.
Field assignments are generally within a 5‑hour driving distance of the assigned office location.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day.
Some overtime may be required, as approved.
What You'll Get Engineer Associate – Engineer Sr: $84,000 – $105,000 per year.

Compensation Range: $72,380.00 – $124,940.00
Physical Demand Level S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Tasks include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, walking or standing as required.
