Title: Mechanical Field Engineer – QA/QC
Location: Rapid City, SD
Travel: Required (U.S.-based projects)
Position Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Field Engineer with a QA/QC focus to support large-scale EPC construction projects in the field. This role is ideal for an early-career Mechanical Engineer who thrives onsite, enjoys travel, and is eager to gain hands‑on exposure across mechanical systems, quality processes, and construction execution.
The Field Engineer will work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, QA/QC personnel, and subcontractors to support heavy mechanical, environmental, and exhaust systems, ensuring work is installed safely, correctly, and in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Support field execution of mechanical scopes with an emphasis on quality control and safety.
Perform field inspections and walkdowns to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
Assist with QA/QC documentation including inspection reports, checklists, test results, NCRs, and turnover packages.
Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and installation work packages.
Coordinate with construction, engineering, and QA/QC teams to resolve field issues.
Track installation progress and assist with punch list development and closeout.
Participate in inspections with clients, third‑party inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
Support material receiving inspections and verification of MTRs and documentation.
Assist with system turnover and commissioning readiness activities.
Maintain a strong safety mindset and participate in toolbox talks and site safety initiatives.
Travel to additional project sites across the U.S. as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
1–5 years of field or EPC experience preferred (experience with firms such as Kiewit or similar EPC contractors is highly desired).
Strong interest in construction, QA/QC, and mechanical field execution.
Willingness and enthusiasm to travel extensively across the U.S.
Eager, motivated, and hands‑on mindset with a strong “learn‑in‑the‑field” mentality.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
Comfortable working in active construction environments.
Proficiency with MS Excel and Word; Procore exposure is a plus.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with site teams.
