General Mechanical Services
General Mechanical Services is seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role includes boilers, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, HVAC units, and related accessories. The HVAC Technician will perform tests, analyze data, and provide recommendations to customers.
Responsibilities
Monitor, evaluate, and troubleshoot equipment and controls to ensure safe operation and performance.
Perform routine repairs (e.g., pump seals, bearings).
Inspect and test systems to verify compliance with plans and specifications or detect malfunctions.
Determine customer concerns with their HVAC systems.
Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety and cleanliness.
Discuss system malfunctions with customers to isolate problems or confirm repairs.
Record and report faults, deficiencies, and other occurrences, and record time and materials.
Test pipe or tubing joints for leaks.
Adjust system controls to manufacturer‑recommended settings to balance the system.
Recommend, develop, or perform preventive or general maintenance (cleaning, power‑washing, vacuuming, lubricating, filter changes).
Install auxiliary components (expansion valves, ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, stokers) following blueprints.
Assist other work in coordination with repair and maintenance teams.
Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats, and timers.
Generate work orders addressing deficiencies.
Connect pipes or tubing to equipment and fuel, water, or refrigerant sources to form complete circuits.
Assemble, position, and mount heating or cooling equipment based on blueprints.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years of HVAC level operation, maintenance, and repair experience.
Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques; electrical circuits, wiring, motor operating principles, and local electrical codes.
Effective communication with internal teams and customers.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Diagnose and resolve problems; read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and reference material; perform math.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate machinery and equipment, use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must perform stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently. Physical demand requirements are medium work level.
Work Environment Primarily operates alone on HVAC and boiler equipment in all environments, including extreme cold or heat, depending on the time of year. Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
