Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer ECS Location: Roy, UT. Join Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems as a Mechanical Engineer / Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Program.

Responsibilities

Collaborate across Systems Engineering, System Test, Global Supply Chain, suppliers, and other Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to develop and review Environmental Control System hardware requirements, specifications, designs, trade studies, and analyses.

Decompose technical requirements, develop complete and verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies.

Generate and update specifications as part of a Systems Engineering framework for release to suppliers and support the procurement process.

Develop design and analysis artifacts to support design reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows.

Perform heating and cooling calculations to size HVAC equipment.

Select appropriate HVAC equipment to meet size and system requirements.

Review and provide comments to supplier‑submitted drawings and contractual deliveries.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine‑hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualifications Mechanical Engineer level (T02) or Principal Mechanical Engineer level (T03).

Mechanical Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and ≥ 2 years of experience; or Master’s degree and 0 years of experience.

Principal Mechanical Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and ≥ 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree and ≥ 3 years of experience.

Required for Both Levels

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.

Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools – PowerPoint, Excel, Word.

Ability to understand and interpret requirements.

Ability to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction.

Nice to Have

Experience with Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) system design and verification.

Experience with Carrier HAP, NX, Autodesk Revit, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

Familiarity with Systems Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes.

Working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and plant controls.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Experience with estimation, bidding, proposals, or RFPs.

Experience with PDP (Product Definition Packages) creation.

Salary Range Primary Level: $72,100.00 – $108,100.00 Secondary Level: $89,400.00 – $134,200.00

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long‑Term Incentives.
