MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I - 1ST SHIFT (391)

Location: Carol Stream, IL | Pay: $30.00–$38.00 This position is responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, lubricating, and troubleshooting complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery, as well as other equipment in the facility. The role also includes predictive and preventative maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, component fabrication, and safety compliance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Install, operate, maintain, repair, lubricate, troubleshoot complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery and other equipment (gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps, compressors, dust collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc.). Perform predictive and preventative maintenance activities per the CMMS system. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot A/C and D/C electrical equipment. Fabricate components using standard shop equipment (lathe, mill, drill press, brake, shear, band saw, welding equipment). Operate production equipment for troubleshooting and validation of completed maintenance activities. Assist engineering in installing new equipment; work from drawings, verbal instructions, and sketches. Collaborate with technical support, operations, and peer mechanics to resolve machine or personnel issues. Maintain spare parts inventory for the plant—check out, reorder, and restock as directed. Keep shop areas and parts room clean and orderly. Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives; recommend and implement improvement ideas. Perform occasional work in other areas such as building maintenance. Comply with safety and cGMP requirements; follow lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and wear all personal protective equipment. Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college/technical school plus a minimum of two years of related experience, or a minimum of five years of related experience. Comprehensive knowledge of machine troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, OSHA standards, cGMPs, and lock‑out/tag‑out. Food or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred. PERFORMANCE ABILITY

Demonstrated strong working knowledge and ability to repair packaging and processing production equipment within one year of employment. Solid knowledge of machine capabilities and manufacturing processes. Ability to train and mentor junior mechanics. Consistently meets quality, safety, and efficiency goals. Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and planning skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Strong teamwork and communication skills. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Basic computer skills. Reading and understanding of electrical and mechanical blueprints. Knowledge of company, local, state, and federal electrical codes. Understanding of PLC, solid‑state, and servo control. Working knowledge of electrical test equipment (digital multimeter, amp probe, megger, etc.). Ability to work other shifts, weekends, and travel to other facilities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regular standing, walking, and hand use; reaching, lifting, and carrying loads up to 60 lbs. Step on and off ladders and equipment at 24 inches; grasp 50 lbs of force; push/pull 42 lbs at 36 inches. Lift up to 60 lbs from floor to waist and 60 lbs from 31 inches for 5 feet. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work involves moving mechanical parts, exposure to herbal aromas, dust, airborne particles, ingredients, mixes, and packaging. Occasional work in high or precarious places and outside weather conditions; exposure to fumes, cold, and heat. Noise levels are moderately loud; hearing protection may be required in certain areas. Employees may be required to travel to other facilities.
