Job Summary Responsible for installing, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing plant electrical, instrument, and control systems at the highest level of skill. Performs duties in accordance with plant procedures, safety regulations, and company policies. Provides technical support for both lower‑level and larger‑scale projects and may also perform duties of lower classifications as required.

Practical Test Outline

Identify leads and connect wye wound motors (High‑Voltage 480 V and Low‑Voltage 220 V)

Disassemble motors for inspection and repair; use Megger to determine winding condition

Install new bearings on test motor, perform correct heating techniques and verify end‑bell fits

Demonstrate print‑reading ability

Examine and evaluate resistors, relays, and semiconductors

Troubleshoot start/stop circuits

Identify 480 VAC molded‑case breaker components

Connect and calibrate an electronic pressure transmitter; monitor output with VOM and recorder

Connect and calibrate an electric‑to‑pneumatic signal converter

Calibrate and adjust a valve positioner and verify operation on a control valve

Behavioral Interview The interview focuses on core competencies and uses a behavioral‑based approach to assess how past behavior predicts future performance. Questions address teamwork, problem‑solving, communication, safety awareness, and initiative.

Minimum Requirements

Successfully qualified as an Instrument & Control Repairman II or equivalent training with at least four (4) years of instrumentation technician experience

Preferred Ovation background

Electrical maintenance experience

Extensive experience with DCS and PLCs

Willingness to work overtime

Ability to read prints and equipment manuals

Basic math calculations

Basic computer skills – data entry and retrieval

Working knowledge of craft tools

Valid driver’s license

Physical ability to bend, lift, and stoop for extended periods

Ability to climb stairs and work from ladders or elevated platforms

Ability to work harmoniously with others

Knowledge of plant processes

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an Electrical or Instrumentation Apprenticeship program

Medium‑voltage electrical maintenance experience

HART communication experience

Relay experience

Position Description Install, test, calibrate, tune, maintain, repair, and modify all plant electrical, instrument, and control systems to the highest level of skill in accordance with training, plant procedures, and direction. Perform other duties as directed, including those of lower classifications.

Responsibilities

Understand and follow company policies and procedures

Understand and follow Federal and State safety regulations

Understand theory, operation, and troubleshooting of plant electrical and instrumentation equipment

Read, understand, and interpret schematics, logic drawings, or other prints and drawings as needed

Set up jobs, including required materials, tools, and special equipment typically associated with electrical or instrumentation work at a generating station

Perform complex system repair and troubleshooting using limited information and instructions

Work alone or in a team and direct lower classifications as needed

Maintain awareness of environmental considerations that impact the job to the level of knowledge, training, and experience

Perform assigned work safely and efficiently in alignment with company practices and procedures

Work overtime as required

Provide services to company affiliates subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Meet position requirements and demonstrate competency through the established testing procedure

Utilize computer‑based maintenance management system

Qualify as an Instrument and Control Repairman II or related training, and produce certification if required

Read and apply information from drawings and instruction books

Perform math calculations to identify voltages, current flows, or other parameters accurately

Use calibration, measuring, and testing equipment effectively

Operate all hand and power tools normally associated with this craft safely

Have electrical maintenance experience

Compensation & Benefits Pay Rate: $58.69 per hour
