Responsibilities

Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, installs and replaces building and equipment electrical and electronic systems and components rated up to 600 volts.

Performs preventive maintenance utilizing multimeters and other specialty equipment to safely test, measure and correct any observed deficiencies.

Generates material lists, acquires materials, keeps accurate records of materials used, and maintains daily time reports.

Performs electrical maintenance work in accordance with established safety procedures, inspects work of others for conformance to specifications and building / safety codes.

Assists other team members in achieving shop goals related to key performance indicators.

Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up to date on daily work order status.

Participates in the On-Call Program, completes paperwork accurately and on time, maintains documentation of all systems.

Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey‑level electrician. Three years of experience troubleshooting electrical systems. Journeyman electrical license from jurisdiction recognized by City of Austin. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's Degree in a related field.

Graduation from technical or vocational trade school.

More than three years of journey‑level experience.

Licensed as a Master Electrician.

Experience in another maintenance trade.

Demonstrated stable work history.

Experience at UT Austin or other higher education institution.

Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.

Salary Range $61,857 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions

Position designated essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed.

Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform time reporting.

May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.

May require lifting up to 50 lbs, twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling and bending.

May be required to operate job‑related equipment.

May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.

May drive University vehicles and maintain acceptable driver rating.

Participate in on‑call program.

Work Shift 40 hours a week, five 8‑hour days, or possibly four 10‑hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays possible.
