Fabrication Lead Man (Pipe and Metal Hose)
The Fabrication Leadman is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing and participating in the day-to‑day activities of a team engaged in the fabrication, pipe fitting, welding, and testing of pipe and metal hose products. This individual ensures that safety, quality, productivity, and delivery targets are met, acts as a liaison between management and shop employees, and helps drive continuous improvement within the fabrication shop.
Role & Responsibilities
Lead, train and motivate fabrication personnel engaged in the production of pipe and metal hose assemblies
Organize, delegate, and monitor daily work assignments to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of orders
Operate and train others in the use of fabrication and assembly equipment including saws, benders, welders, threading machines, presses, and testing rigs
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, isometrics, and work orders, ensuring compliance with customer specifications
Perform and oversee precision pipe fitting and assembly, including measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, and installing pipes and hoses to required tolerances
Direct and participate in various welding processes for pipe fabrication and assembly, including GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG), ensuring proper joint preparation, weld quality, and adherence to codes/standards
Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and proper assembly; perform or direct corrective actions as needed
Coordinate with other departments (sales, quality, shipping/receiving) to resolve production issues and prioritize work
Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work environment
Assist with troubleshooting production problems, recommending and implementing solutions for process improvement
Maintain materials, tools, and equipment, scheduling preventive maintenance as required
Complete required paperwork and reporting, including production logs and quality records
Qualifications & Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in industrial fabrication or welding preferred
3+ years’ experience in pipe and metal hose fabrication or a related field
1+ years in a lead or supervisory role strongly preferred
Proficient in the operation of fabrication equipment: pipe saws, tube benders, welding machines, threading machines, presses, hose crimpers, etc.
Demonstrated experience in pipe fitting and pipe welding techniques (GTAW, GMAW), with the ability to ensure high‑quality, code‑compliant joints and assemblies
Able to interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings
Sound knowledge of fabrication techniques, material types (carbon/stainless pipe, braided hose, etc.), and shop mathematics
Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
Strong leadership, communication, and team‑building skills
Commitment to safety, quality, and process improvement
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, bending, and performing physical tasks throughout the shift
Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed
Working Conditions
Industrial fabrication shop environment with typical exposure to noise, heavy machinery, welding operations, metal shavings, and production tools
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
