Design and support complex mechanical equipment for a facility that will safely dispose of radioactive and chemical waste generated during World War II and Cold War plutonium production. Protect the Columbia River and surrounding communities and wildlife. Job Summary
Member of the Mechanical Handling Engineering group. Responsible for design, development, modification, evaluation, and issue resolution of mechanical components and processes. Develop highly detailed design documents, drawings, and calculations to meet applicable requirements. Major Responsibilities
Evaluate, select, and apply standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, and procedures. Participate in the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines. Provide technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interact with project functions, customer, and regulatory agency personnel. Prepare standard discipline deliverables and engineering budgets and schedules within discipline. Lead engineering efforts, mentor junior engineers, and resolve complex design issues. Assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals. Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 2–5 years of relevant experience, or 6–9 years of relevant work experience. Required Knowledge and Skills
Authorized to work and remain in the United States without sponsor. Pass pre‑employment drug screen, physical (if on site), and background check. Obtain Department of Energy badge for Hanford Site access. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Familiar with resolving complex engineering issues and developing innovative solutions. Working knowledge of SolidWorks for engineering quality models and drawings. Collaborative environment – participate in resolving design challenges. Working knowledge of Unity 3D Game Engine.
