Modeling and Simulation Engineer (Materials)
CFD Research Corporation is adding a talented Modeling & Simulation Engineer to our current team. This individual will support customer site work in Dayton, OH. In this role, the Modeling and Simulation Engineer will design and develop software to aid in the development, verification, and validation of physics-based models applied to materials systems such as composites, coatings, aerospace alloys, additively manufactured materials, etc.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, maintain, and apply M&S and analytical tools to solve materials science problems related to processing and performance
Develop and integrate software models into complex multi-scale, multi-physics simulation environments
Analyze software program needs and assist in troubleshooting
Actively collaborate with other researchers working on materials modeling and characterization
Document technical activities and findings in reports and publications, as well as review meetings with government customers and program managers
Contribute to / lead future R&D efforts via proposal preparation and expanding existing technical capabilities
Basic Qualifications
Candidate must be a US Citizen with eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Security Clearance
Bachelor's in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related STEM Discipline (Master's or PhD is a plus)
At least 5 years' experience with physics-based modeling and simulation tools
A background in materials science, physics, and / or engineering
Strong model development skills in programming languages including Fortran, Python, and / or C++
Experience with physics-based modeling methods such as finite element analysis, phase field, peridynamics, and computational fluid dynamics
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills is required
Desired Qualifications
Experience deploying physics-based models on high performance computing clusters
Experience in a research and development environment
Experience in compiled languages such as Fortran and / or C / C++ and knowledge of code compilation and development on Linux
A history of peer-reviewed publications
Location This role is based at CFD Research office in the Dayton, OH area, and onsite is preferred.
