Fleet Mechanic I
First Student is hiring immediately for a Mechanic for our shop serving Shoreham, NY. As a Technician at First Student, you will play an integral role in ensuring the safety of the children who rely on us for a ride to and from school in our classic yellow buses.

Benefits
The wage is set at $27.31 per hour, per union contract
$0.25/ASE per hour for each relevant ASE
Monday‑Friday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 5:00 pm full‑time shift

About the Position Our technicians perform maintenance to ensure our fleet of newer vehicles is safe for road travel. They also use their diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues needing repair work. Responsibilities include:
Performing maintenance on brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions
Completing work orders
Assisting with mobile emergency services
Qualifications
Experience working with automotive, diesel, electric, or CNG vehicles
Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain a CDL (training provided)
Mechanic’s tool set
Desire to grow, learn, and develop skills through ASE testing
Motivation to work in a role that meaningfully impacts the community

Additional Information Mechanics and technicians are subject to DOT drug testing as a safety‑sensitive employee.
