About This Position The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

Responsibilities

Repair and maintain pumps and mechanical equipment at water or wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, deep well sites, lift stations, or booster stations.

Operate machinery, but emphasis is on servicing, installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment.

Work under general supervision of an O&M Supervisor and general direction of a Senior Utility Operator, Maintenance Planner Scheduler, or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.

Apply general mechanical maintenance/repair and hydraulic principles.

Salary Pay Range: $24.93 to $36.84 per hour.

Hiring Range: $24.93 to $33.41 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair involving pumps, valves, and motors in a water or wastewater industrial setting.

Graduation from an accredited mechanical trade school may be substituted for six months of experience.

Completion of City of Phoenix Operations & Maintenance Technician Trainee program may be substituted for 6 months experience.

Possession of a Grade 1 Arizona ADEQ Wastewater Treatment certification by end of 12-month probationary period.

SCBA assignment requires annual Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus certification and annual physical per OSHA standards.

Willingness to walk prolonged periods, move heavy objects 50 lbs long distances >20 ft, work in small cramped areas, lift ladders, work outside in heat/cold/rain, irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, even respond to emergency call outs.

All finalists subject to criminal background check.

Use of personal or City vehicles on City business requires valid driver’s license and acceptable record.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with compressors.

Plumbing/pipe fitting.

Welding, cutting, fabrication.

Automotive or construction field experience.

Precision measuring equipment, such as micrometers and dial indicators.

Equipment maintenance and repair involving pumps, valves, and motors in an industrial setting.
