Refrigeration Mechanic

Perform a variety of specialized duties that support the operation of the Refrigeration Maintenance department in the Shaw’s Division. Monitor building equipment for safety and repair. Troubleshoot refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems, perform repairs, document solutions, and make recommendations for further action.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Make daily mechanical checks on equipment in the Mechanical Room, Roof, HVAC, EMS systems, refrigerated cases, and walk-ins.
Maintain all refrigeration, HVAC, EMS systems, electrical, and mechanical systems and make necessary repairs.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks, leak checks, inspections, and record required information; maintain EPA forms and required documentation in both paper form at the store and electronically in Corrigo and Trakref.
Monitor preventive maintenance work done by outside contractors and notify the Refrigeration Manager of issues or problems.
Responsible for troubleshooting refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems, performing repairs, documenting solutions, and recommending further action.
Maintain a high technical level in troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Manage communications for service calls in a timely manner as required.
Maintain current license, inspection, permit, and certificate requirements to meet all state and local codes.
Operate EMS building controls and automation systems; fine‑tune operating parameters, adjust set points and schedules, and fully understand and modify building control sequences that operate the Energy Management Systems/Building Management Systems.
Perform a variety of administrative tasks such as ordering material, writing purchase orders, and data entry for work reports and refrigerant leak reports via iPad.
Perform all duties in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work area in the mechanical room, roof, service vehicle, etc.
Must be willing to work overtime on weekends, holidays, and after‑hours when on call.
Responsible for reducing refrigerant leak rates at 7‑10 stores.
Pre‑ventive maintenance of refrigeration mechanical systems at 7‑10 stores.
Maintain detailed records related to maintenance and make recommendations for further action.
Collect and update data and information and provide reports and basic analysis for the Refrigeration Manager.
Review information/data and make decisions within very defined guidelines, parameters, and instruction.
Act as a resource to staff in the work group and perform other related functions and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Education Level: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of building‑related vocational technical programs preferred.
Experience Level: Minimum of three years recent experience performing refrigeration service, maintenance work in building related trades.
Skills And Experiences
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to perform duties with a high degree of accuracy and care to avoid mechanical breakdowns.
Able to respond to direct requests as soon as possible.
Able to maintain proper neat uniform appearance of company‑provided work shirt and employee‑provided clean blue jeans without holes or tears.
Wear required personal protective equipment as required, including arc flash and safety glasses.
Must possess proficient computer skills.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must possess an EPA Section 608 Universal refrigerant Certification.
Ability to read and comprehend manuals, prints, and work orders.
Knowledge of tools and equipment maintenance.
General record‑keeping skills.
Customer service orientation and sensitivity to diverse needs of coworkers, employees, and other persons contacted in the daily course of work.
Ability to work independently.
Detail oriented, ability to organize, and strong analytical skills.
