Proven experience leading mechanical design and capital projects
Strong knowledge of mechanical project management

Ability to read and work from P&IDs
Ability to work onsite in an industrial plant environment and meet physical requirements
Available for a 3–4 month contract assignment
Position Overview We are seeking a hands‑on Contract Mechanical Engineer to support capital projects and provide technical assistance to the maintenance team at a manufacturing facility in Mobile, AL. This short‑term contract (approximately 3–4 months) will play a key role in preparing the plant for an upcoming shutdown and ensuring project readiness and execution.
This role requires strong mechanical design expertise, project leadership skills, and the ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Projects & Mechanical Design
Lead mechanical design for capital projects from concept through commissioning
Develop project scope, cost estimates, funding requests, and procurement plans
Perform required engineering calculations and technical analyses
Ensure designs comply with process requirements, fabrication standards, and construction codes
Prepare complete engineering packages including drawings, specifications, and work scopes
Project Execution & Coordination
Partner with production to align project objectives and design solutions
Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, civil, and structural disciplines
Manage contractors during construction and installation
Track and control project budgets and schedules
Ensure project documentation is complete and properly archived at closeout
Confirm availability of required spare parts for project completion
Plant & Maintenance Support
Provide technical support to the mechanical maintenance team
Assist plant engineering project teams as needed during shutdown preparation

Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
High attention to detail with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and function effectively in a high‑pressure environment

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 160 feet while wearing PPE
Willingness to work around chemicals, acid fumes, silicon dust, and hot equipment
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and access valves, pumps, and equipment
Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather
