Process Engineer
Location: Sumter, South Carolina, United States
Salary Range: USD $66,000 — $108,000
Position Overview We are seeking a Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations through process improvement, capital project execution, and equipment optimization. This role plays a key part in achieving departmental and plant objectives related to capacity expansion, quality improvement, waste reduction, and cost efficiency. The Process Engineer reports to the Manufacturing Unit Technical Leader and manages multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage machine improvements and capital equipment projects
Provide mechanical design expertise and troubleshooting support
Guide maintenance and operations staff in troubleshooting mechanical systems, including cam‑driven mechanisms, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
Support manufacturing operations by identifying issues and driving solutions
Coordinate cross‑functionally with equipment vendors, R&D, and plant departments
Manage moderate to large‑scale engineering projects requiring extensive coordination
Prepare and manage capital appropriation requests and control project expenditures
Ensure compliance with established safety standards during equipment operation and modification
Complete or oversee engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications
Recommend vendors and manage contractor selection and performance
Implement capital equipment or process modifications, including installation, debugging, and training of production personnel
Maintain all associated documentation, including validations, operating procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, engineering change notifications, and spare parts lists
Develop comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing equipment, including setup, adjustment, and performance improvement
Achieve targeted cost reductions and operational efficiency improvements
Maintain accountability for spending within approved program budgets
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor
Direct support personnel during equipment installation, modification, or removal
May provide functional guidance to other engineers as required
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline
Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Work Environment & Safety Requirements
Smoke‑free campus; smoking, electronic smoking devices, marijuana, and tobacco products are not permitted on company property
Jewelry, false eyelashes, press‑on fingernails, and dermal piercings are not permitted on the production floor; dermal piercings must be covered if present
Steel‑toe, non‑slip safety shoes are required on the production floor
