Description of Work In this position, you will handle various analytical tasks while performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet that includes construction equipment, trucks, and cars powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Your responsibilities involve servicing multiple systems such as hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as both manual and automatic transmissions. Additionally, you will conduct state vehicle inspections for all relevant equipment, ensure accurate completion of work orders, and meticulously log the time spent on each task. Promptly report any incidents or damage to equipment. You will identify the correct repair procedures for heavy machinery and make necessary mechanical adjustments for optimal performance, while maintaining a safe working environment for yourself, colleagues, and equipment operators.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
Travel, overtime, and shift work required; hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs
Telework: not an option in this position
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin at an annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes)

Qualifications
Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (or an equivalent federal job title)
Two years of journey‑level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, including one year of diesel vehicle or equipment repair experience
Or an equivalent combination of experience and training
Special Requirements
Valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
Where required, an active Pennsylvania Class B CDL with Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent
Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work
May be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment
Where applicable, a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
Must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
Additional Requirement
You must be able to perform essential job functions
