Job Summary:

To abrasive blast components in order to remove scale, rust, and other foreign matter in preparation for cleaning, painting, and other surface sensitive operations.

Responsibilities

Setup and operate abrasive blast equipment for the purpose of removing scale, rust, and other foreign matter from the inside and outside of components and vessels. Ensure the components to be blasted are secured and properly placed prior to commencing blasting. Report any malfunctions or abnormal condition of equipment to Foreman.

Thoroughly blast components while remaining focused on utilizing the least amount of blast media necessary.

Occasional blasting required in confined and controlled spaces. Work in a safe and secure manner and comply with the safety rules and procedures. Keep protective gear in good working condition. Assist in placing and removing components and products to/from the blasting area. Aid in carrying out minor maintenance on abrasive blasting equipment.

Operate jib cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment (except heavy cranes) for the moving of material, components, and equipment from location to location within the plant. Occasionally operate overhead cranes and tow motors in support of small moves to continue production within the department. Perform general laborer duties as required (i.e. grinding, loading and unloading of trucks and railcars, brick furnace). Keep working area clean and perform housekeeping duties around the plant as required (i.e. pickup tools, roll‑up hoses and cables, sweep).
