Billing Analyst with Advanced Excel
Location: Columbus, OH – ONSITE Monday‑Friday. 12‑month contract.
Summary The Billing Analyst is responsible for billing operations, analysis and customer service for large accounts. The Analyst will liaise with utilities, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve routine and complex billing questions and requests, ensuring on‑time accurate billing.
Responsibilities
Verify accuracy of billing data and review individual accounts, making independent decisions regarding billing activities.
Serve as the primary contact for large account billing management internally and externally through proactive communication with Sales and Customers.
Identify billing discrepancies, determine root causes, and independently take steps to resolve issues and revise errors.
Create manual invoices at a detailed customer level, ensuring data integrity.
Review, analyze and resolve unbilled cycles.
Communicate and maintain relationships with utilities to troubleshoot issues and verify data.
Collaborate with IT to improve system‑driven automation.
Accurately update and generate reports, analyze findings, and draw appropriate conclusions.
Comprehend and interpret Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions.
Ensure SOX Compliance and participate in the monthly close process.
Work closely with the Pricing team to fully understand pricing components and keep billing processes aligned with market or utility changes.
Maintain high customer service standards for both internal and external customers.
Document and regularly maintain processes and training materials.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required. Accounting, Finance or Business Management preferred. Minimum 3 years of billing, finance or relevant business experience.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
Advanced Excel and/or Microsoft Access skills for data analysis. Technical understanding of information systems. Ability to read and interpret general business and technical documents and communicate concisely to sales, customers and other employees.
Experience in energy billing or industry background is ideal.
Prior ability to prioritize, plan proactively, manage conflicting priorities and multi‑task effectively.
Superior attention to detail, conscientiousness, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong problem‑solving skills with initiative, proactive approach, and clarity in communication.
Resilience under stress, adaptability to change, and comfort with uncertainty.
