Job Overview
The Collateral Specialist is responsible for ensuring the bank’s secured loan portfolio is properly documented, perfected, and maintained in compliance with bank policy and regulatory requirements. This position supports the lending team by reviewing and maintaining all collateral documentation, including insurance, deeds of trust, assignments of leases and rents, UCC filings, and construction-related collateral. The Collateral Specialist plays a key role in mitigating risk and safeguarding the bank’s collateral interests. Duties & Responsibilities
Review and verify collateral documentation for new, renewed, and modified loans to ensure accuracy and compliance. Track and update insurance coverage on collateralized loans, ensuring policies meet bank requirements and remain current. Review and maintain deeds of trust, assignments of leases and rents, and other security instruments; ensure proper recording and lien perfection. Prepare, file, and monitor UCC financing statements and continuations to protect the bank’s secured position. Process loan payoffs and releases of collateral, ensuring timely and accurate lien releases. Review and monitor construction draw requests, verifying compliance with approval conditions, lien waivers, and inspection reports. Maintain accurate and up-to-date collateral records in the bank’s loan system and collateral tracking software. Communicate with loan officers, credit administration, title companies, and customers to resolve collateral documentation issues. Assist with internal and external loan audits and regulatory examinations as needed. Support other loan operations functions and special projects as assigned. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in banking, loan operations, or collateral management required. Strong knowledge of loan documentation, insurance requirements, UCC filings, and lien perfection. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with bank core processing systems preferred. Skills & Attributes
Experience with commercial and construction lending documentation. Familiarity with federal and state banking regulations related to collateral management. Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and excellent customer service. Seniority level
