Commercial Lines Sr. Underwriter, Religious Organizations – Hybrid or Remote Opportunity As the Sr. Underwriter, Religious Organizations – Group Affiliated Programs, you will manage a book of program business for profitability and growth, advising underwriters and support staff on technical systems, processes, and procedures. You will review new and renewal program business, assess coverage risk, prepare quotes, respond to coverage questions, and approve underwriting decisions. You will also build relationships with agents to drive business flow and exercise independent judgment.

Responsibilities

Analyze exposures and determine acceptable risks for complex niche business, setting competitive coverage and premium.

Handle or support complex state, risk, regulatory, and CAT exposure.

Take a tactical approach to underwriting to achieve profitability and growth.

Exercise judgment and latitude based on industry experience.

Analyze inspection reports, location, risk, and financial data to accept or reject new and renewal business in property and casualty lines.

Manage risk portfolio to meet established goals and business metrics.

Review and approve underwriting decisions for lower authority levels.

Collaborate with Underwriting Assistants on accounts and agency relationships.

Provide direction to lower-level underwriters and assistants.

Provide backup support for the Underwriting Leader.

Build relationships with agents to increase business flow.

Seek new business opportunities.

Communicate with Loss Control and Risk Management for inspections.

Assist in training and mentoring lower-level underwriters.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field preferred.

Industry designation (CPCU, IIA, etc.) desirable.

Five years of progressively responsible commercial underwriting experience, including three years in a P&C insurance company.

Experience in writing Religious Organizations and Program Business preferred.

Broad knowledge of P&C insurance industry terms, practices, and regulations.

Application of advanced underwriting concepts and practices.

Strong negotiating, analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong customer service orientation.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Strong attention to numeric details and ability to manage large work volume.

Compensation

$58,800–$90,000, commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility.

$64,800–$95,000 for CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility.
